Psalm 133 | IMAGINE ALL THE PEOPLE…

Psalm 133 shows that true unity among God’s people is both beautiful and sacred, rooted in what is good, flowing from Christ our Great High Priest, and sustained by God’s blessing. This unity is grounded in truth, expressed through life in Christ, and leads to the fullness of eternal life with God.

When Brothers Dwell in Unity

A Song of Ascents. Of David.

[1] Behold, how good and pleasant it is

when brothers dwell in unity!

[2] It is like the precious oil on the head,

running down on the beard,

on the beard of Aaron,

running down on the collar of his robes!

[3] It is like the dew of Hermon,

which falls on the mountains of Zion!

For there the LORD has commanded the blessing,

life forevermore. (ESV)

1. Sermon Recap: Chris said that unity cannot be maintained by setting aside truth or forcing uniformity. How then do God’s people dwell together in unity as verse 1 indicates? (Amanda / Cabrina)

2. History/Culture/Language: Chris talked about two different Hebrew words used in this Psalm:

• Good (tov) means something that is beneficial, desirable, or excellent.

• Pleasant (na’im) refers to something that brings joy or happiness.

Biblical unity is not based on feelings yet it is both good and pleasant. What does the Psalm mean by that? (Bernadette / Cheryl)

3. Biblical Context: Read 1 Samuel 12 &13. These chapters demonstrate examples of the sins and resulting disunity in the life of King David. How does this background help you understand the importance of the unity described in Psalm 133. (Toli / Yvette)
